The present invention relates to a broadband photomixer technique that is key to continuous frequency tunable and pulsed terahertz wave generation. By applying the transmission characteristics of the two-dimensional photonic crystal structure, the light absorbance can be improved and the generation efficiency of the terahertz wave can be increased. In addition, a large-area array type terahertz photomixer can be realized by applying an interdigit structure and appropriately arranging photonic crystal structures having various periods in a space. This alleviates the high optical density of the light absorbing part to solve the difficulty of thermal property and optical alignment, and dramatically improves the low photoelectric conversion efficiency. In addition, the radiation pattern of terahertz waves can be electrically controlled through this technique.
