The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for testing compressive strength of sea ice. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the testing apparatus comprises: a sphere having a set weight and diameter; a plurality of guide pipes which are extended in a vertical direction, have a hollow pipe shape, guide a vertical drop of the sphere accommodated therein, and are separated from each other; a connection member which connects upper portions of the plurality of guide pipes to each other, and is extended in a longitudinal direction; a mounting means which is arranged on an upper portion of the guide pipes or the connection member, and positions the sphere accommodated in the guide pipes at a set height; and an outlet which is arranged on a lower portion of the guide pipes, and opens and closes one side of the guide pipes to discharge the sphere accommodated in the guide pipes. According an embodiment of the present invention, the testing method comprises: an arranging step of arranging the guide pipes on an upper portion of sea ice to be tested; a height setting step of positioning the sphere in the guide pipes, and using the mounting means to adjust the height of the sphere; a dropping step of freely dropping the sphere onto an upper portion of the sea ice; a measuring step of measuring a degree with which the sphere is inserted into the sea ice; and a calculating step of calculating compressive strength of the sea ice based on a value measured in the measuring step. A compressive strength test of sea ice using the apparatus and the method omits a conventional complex process, and is convenient and economical since manufacture of a separate sample is not required.
