Systems and methods are disclosed that use available information about the state of mobile devices in a heuristic-based approach to improve motion state detection. In one or more embodiments, information about WiFi connectivity of mobile devices may be used to improve detection of a transport condition. WiFi connectivity information may be used with sensor signals, such as accelerometer signals, in a motion classifier to reduce false positives in transit.
