Catalytic compositions useful in removal of sulfur compounds from gaseous hydrocarbons processes for making these and uses thereof

The disclosed catalyst compositions exhibit an X-ray amorphous oxide with spinel composition and highly dispersed crystals of ZnO, CuO, and optionally CeO ₂ . The composition is useful for oxidation and adsorption processes to remove sulfur from gaseous hydrocarbons.
