The present invention relates to a method for setting a laundry course based on speech recognition using artificial intelligence, capable of increasing the washing performance of a washing machine, and an apparatus implementing the same. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a washing machine for setting a laundry course based on speech recognition comprises: a speech input unit receiving, from a user, a speech including either or both of a stain word pointing a stain and a cloth word pointing laundry to generate speech data; a communication unit transmitting the speech data and identification information of the washing machine to a first server, and receiving course setting information corresponding to either or both of the stain information and the cloth information from anyone of the first server and a second server discriminated from the first server; a speech guide unit outputting a speech guide message guiding the laundry course corresponding to the course setting information; and a control unit controlling the speech input unit, the communication unit, and the speech guide unit.
