Reacting a substituted phthalic anhydride with an organic diamine in the presence of a catalyst and an imidization catalyst selected from a quaternary ammonium salt, a quaternary phosphonium salt, and combinations thereof, wherein the bis (phthalimide) (Phthalimide) composition is completed in 99% completion in less than 6 hours.
