The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing stress comprising the steps of: acquiring electrocardiogram original signals; acquiring electrocardiogram signals processed by treating the electrocardiogram original signals; extracting a plurality of heart rate variability parameters from the processed electrocardiogram signals; selecting a predetermined heart rate variability parameter from a plurality of heart rate variability parameters; determining a stress state of an object to be measured from a predetermined heart rate variability parameter; and outputting the stress state. The present invention selects an optimum heart rate variability parameter according to given all stress states on the basis of heart rate variability produced from electrocardiogram signals, and excludes unnecessary heart rate variability less relevant to the given stress states, thereby monitoring stress diagnosis effectively and accurately.
