METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECOGNIZING SPEED-LIMIT SIGN BASED ON IMAGE PROCESSING

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for detecting a speed-limit sign and recognizing a speed limit by using YUV color space conversion and an AdaBoost classifier. More specifically, the apparatus comprises: an image receiving unit receiving an image captured by using a camera; a color space conversion unit converting a color space of the received image; an image processing unit emphasizing the color characteristics of a sign in the image in which the color space is converted; a region of interest detecting unit detecting a region of interest in the image in which the color characteristics are emphasized; and an information recognizing unit recognizing information from the detected region of interest. The method for detecting a speed-limit sign, proposed by the present invention, converts an obtained image into a YUV color space, obtains only a U channel to which a weight is assigned, detects a speed sign area from the obtained U channel by using the AdaBoost classifier based on Haar, and recognizes a speed limit, thereby improving recognition performance and accurately recognizing the speed sign even in a situation where the color characteristics may be altered.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2019
