Chlorinated Copper Phthalocyanine Pigment

It is an object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of conventional chlorination of copper phthalocyanine, which produces copper phthalocyanine having a number of chlorine of 4 or less. The pigments described herein contain less chlorine than standard commercial grade tetrachloride copper (or more) copper phthalocyanine pigments while at the same time achieving similar color space, chromaticity, color fastness properties and color shifts in automotive waterborne and solventborne systems. The pigments of the present invention are more advantageous from a toxic and environmental point of view and allow manufacturers to produce the pigments in a safe and economical manner.
