The present invention relates to a subsynchronous resonance detection device and a method thereof, which are able to equalize an application system, to which a serial compensation is applied, and a power generator, to calculate an impedance for each frequency, to obtain electric damping of a power system by using the calculated impedance, to compare the electric damping with mechanical damping of the power generator, and to determine a resonance risk. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the subsynchronous resonance detection device, which aims to review a subsynchronous resonance risk of the power system and the power generator, which is serially compensated with the power system, comprises: a measuring unit which measures a voltage (V), a current (I), and a phase angle 0 in real time on a front end of the power generator; an impedance calculation unit which calculates an impedance value of the power system based on the information measured by the measuring unit; a damping calculation unit which calculates an electric damping value of the power system by using the calculated impedance value; and a determination unit which compares the calculated electric damping value with a mechanical damping value of the power generator to determine whether there is a risk of subsynchronous resonance or not.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2020
