In one embodiment of the present invention, the native resolution analyzer generates a log size spectrum that describes the sampling operations performed on the scene. In operation, the native resolution analyzer performs a conversion operation of the color components associated with the frames included in the scene to generate a frame spectrum. The native resolution analyzer then normalizes the magnitudes associated with the frame spectrum and log scales the normalized magnitudes to produce a log size frame spectrum. This two-dimensional log size frame spectrum serves as a frequency signature for the frame. More specifically, the patterns in the log size spectrum reflect resampling operations such as downsampling and subsequent upsampling that may have been performed for the frame. By analyzing the log size spectrum, discrepancies between the display resolution of the scene and the lowest resolution at which the scene is processed can be detected in an automated manner.
