Method and apparatus for building energy consumption outlier detection

Disclosed are a method for detecting abnormal energy use in a building and an apparatus thereof. The method comprises the steps of: (a) performing Fourier transform on the time series energy use of a building; (b) normalizing to a one-sided Fourier spectrum using the Fourier transformed resu and (c) determining whether the energy use of the building is abnormal using the normalized Fourier one-sided spectrum.
