The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating or treating dry eye syndrome comprising an extract of Achyranthes aspera or a fraction thereof as an active component. The extract of Achyranthes aspera or the fraction thereof decreases the expression amount of IL-8 genes increased by fine dust, increases the expression amount of mucin-1 protein reduced by fine dust, increases the amount of tear secretion reduced by dry eye syndrome, and inhibits the change of corneal morphology in which a round circular shape is bent and crushed, thereby being able to be usefully utilized as medicines or health functional food for preventing, alleviating or treating dry eye syndrome.
