Ion Mobility Measurement at Potential Barrier

Method for dividing ions in a gas stream at an electric field barrier into those which can exceed the field barrier and those which are retained by the field barrier, characterized that the gas stream is formed by free outflow of the gas from an opening into an evacuated chamber, wherein the gas stream is provided in the vicinity of the field barrier in a central flow region by the free outflow with a homogeneous velocity field, and the ions are held in the central flow region of the gas stream by an ion guide system and are supplied to the field barrier in the latter.
