Solar control layer system on a transparent, dielectric substrate (S) with the following layers viewed from the substrate (S) upwards: a dielectric base layer (GS) consisting of SnO ₂ , Si ₃ N ₄ or TiO ₂ , a functional layer (FS), at least one dielectric cover layer (DS) consisting of a nitride, oxide or oxynitride of a metal, of a semiconductor or of a semiconductor alloy, - wherein the dielectric base layer (GS) has an optical thickness of more than 400 nm.
