Bidirectional parallel optical transceiver module comprising: a generally planar mounting surface lying in a first plane; an array of light sources mounted on the mounting surface; an array of light detectors mounted on the mounting surface; an optical system disposed on the mounting surface above the array of light sources and the array of light detectors, the optical system comprising: an upper part secured to a lower part by a refractive index (RI) matching epoxy; a first beam splitter; and a pocket disposed between the top and bottom of the optical system, wherein the refractive index (RI) matching epoxy surrounds the beam splitter and fixes the beam splitter within the pocket in a fixed manner the beam splitter has a first filter disposed on an upper side and a second filter disposed on a lower side wherein first optical signals produced by the array of light sources are incident on the second filter splitting each of the first optical signals into at least a first and a second portion, the first portions of the respective optical signals being matched by the refractive index (RI) matching epoxy and the upper side of the first beam splitter, before being coupled by at least one first optical element of the optical system, into respective end surfaces of respective optical fibers mechanically coupled to the optical system; and an array of monitoring light detectors mounted on the mounting surface and configured to receive the second portions of the optical signals from the second filter.
