A method for contextually switching microphones (120, 120a, 120b, 120c), the method comprising: detecting conditions for detecting an acoustic signal through at least two microphones (120, 120a, 120b, 120c), wherein a configuration is associated with the at least two microphones (120, 120a, 120b, 120c), the conditions indicating the presence of two or more of far-field speech, type of background noise, sensitivities of the at least two microphones (120, 120a, 120b, 120c), seals of the at least two microphones (120, 120a, 120b, 120c), signal-to-noise ratio level, SNR in which the acoustic signal and signal-to-echo ratio levels, SER, include in the acoustic signal; detecting a change in at least one of the conditions; determining that the change in the at least one of the conditions has occurred over a predetermined period of time; and in response to determining, changing the configuration associated with the at least two microphones (120, 120a, 120b, 120c).
