A method for producing a nozzle retaining nut (11) with outer grooves (18), wherein the outer grooves (18) are formed by machining material on an outer contour (12) of a blank (10) of the nozzle retaining nut (11) is in view of to improve the manufacture of nozzle locknuts with external grooves, designed and developed such that the external grooves (18) are produced by means of a cutting skiving method in which a rotating skiving tool (28) for cutting along a longitudinal direction (38) relative to the rotating blank (10 ) of the nozzle lock nut (11), whereby the outer grooves (18) are produced. A nozzle lock nut (11) having outer grooves (18) made by such a method is given.
