The present invention relates to a gas internal combustion engine comprising a combustion chamber (2), a piston (3), an ignition device (5) for igniting an ignitable mixture in the combustion chamber, a gas injector (4) for injecting a gaseous fuel, the gas injector (4) is arranged directly on the combustion chamber to inject the gaseous fuel directly into the combustion chamber (2), and a control unit (10) which is adapted to inject the gaseous fuel at a stroke multiple times.
