The present invention relates to an electrolysis cell having a multi-chamber structure, wherein a first ion exchange membrane comprising an anion exchanger adjoins a cathode space, with a salt bridge space adjoining this first ion exchange membrane comprising a solid anion exchanger; an electrolysis plant with such an electrolysis cell; and a method of electrolysis of CO using such an electrolytic cell or electrolysis plant.
