A device which is able to test a safety-relevant evaluation device (BV) for signals and / or data of a safety-related sensor (RS) as part of a safety-relevant overall system (GS) is proposed. Instead of real sensor data from the safety-related sensor (RS), a feed device (EV) feeds virtual sensor data from a virtual sensor (VS) into the evaluation device (BV). The response of the evaluation device (BV) is evaluated by a test evaluation device (TB). It is ensured that the test itself does not trigger safety-critical events.
