X-ray system, for the iterative determination of an optimal coordinate transformation between a first N-dimensional partial volume V1 and a second N-dimensional partial volume V2 of an extended object, these partial volumes partially overlapping in the overlap volumes OV1 and UOV2, and wherein the X-ray system is suitable a) to record partial volumes V1 and V2 by discrete scanning of the expanded object, b) applying a band-pass filter to the overlap volumes OV1 and UOV2 within each iteration step i which removes from the overlap volume OV1 (i) those frequencies which are not included in the overlap volume UOV2 (i) and which is from the overlap volume UOV2 (i) removes those frequencies which are not contained in the overlap volume OV1 (i), whereby filtered overlap volumes FOV1 (i) and FUOV2 (i) are obtained, c) To determine a coordinate transformation by iteratively optimizing a similarity measure between the filtered overlap volumes FOV1 (i) and FUOV2 (i).
