The present invention relates to a method for validating a geological model to corresponding 3D seismic data. It comprises generating an adaptive geological model from said original 3D seismic data comprising at least one first characteristic geological property. At least one synthetic seismic data is then generated from at least a first region of interest of said adaptive geological model that is adapted to determine a qualitative similarity value to a corresponding region of interest of said original 3D seismic data. Said qualitative similarity value is compared to a predetermined reference value. Said at least one first characteristic geological property is modified until said qualitative similarity value is within a predetermined threshold region from said predetermined reference value. The geological property may be a rock characteristic. The property may be modified based on at least one probable data pattern determined using machine learning algorithms. The data pattern may be determined using a predetermined training set of said at least one property.
