A method of processing call setup signalling at a telecommunications switch, the switch receives call setup signalling, comprising at least a caller ID. The telecommunications switch is connected via a plurality of trunks which connect the telecommunications switch to two or more other telecommunications switches capable of transmitting call setup signalling to the switch. Theswitch detects at least one of the plurality of trunks via which the call setup signalling has arrived at said switch. The switch determines a call handling option to be applied to the incoming call setup signalling based at least in part on the detecting and the caller ID. Therefore, the switch is enabled to determine call handling options based on the detected trunk. The embodiments do not rely on a digital signature inserted by a carrier network involved in routing the call setups signalling, such as the carrier network. Accordingly, the embodiments are not dependent on the capability of other carrier networks to include the digital signature for determining whether call signalling relates to nuisance calls. Relates to an improved mechanism for identification of unsolicited and unwanted telephone calls, which is not dependent on the capability of other networks.
