A method of installing a sports-activity playing-surface access system 10 for providing unmanned access to a sports surface. The method comprises providing a modular entry barrier kit to be installed comprising a modular openable and closable entry gate 14, a modular frame 42 and an electrically operable locking assembly 58. An entry barrier hinge direction is then selected and an appropriate left or right-handed lock jamb 46 is installed. A first rail member 16 is inserted into a second rail member 18 to appropriately dimension the entry barrier to the entranceway. The locking assembly 58 is installed to the modular entry barrier for locking and/or unlocking the modular openable and closable entry barrier 14. The locking assembly 58 is then connected to an external server 68 so that an entry demand inputted into the electronic user-interface 60 is verifiable with a server. Also disclosed is a modular-entry-barrier kit.
