The invention relates to a diagnostic method and test kit for the identification of the manipulation of muscle growth in domestic animals such as cattle, wherein the animal is tested for at least one biomarker related to myostatin or myostatin-related pathways, wherein the levels of the at least one biomarker are compared with a control. The test reliably shows manipulation of the mystatin-related pathways based on several suitable biomarkers, in particular levels of anti-mostatin antibodies.
