A method comprising an analysis of a set of initial parameters defining an initial multilayer neural network, wherein said analysis comprises a reduction in the size of at least one initial parameter of each layer so as to obtain for each layer a set of new ones parameters, each new parameter having its data represented in two parts, an integer part and a fractional part, an implementation of said neural network using a test input data set applied only once to each layer, an elaboration for each layer of a distribution function or of a density function resulting from the set of said new parameters, to decide whether to increase or decrease the size of the memory area allocated to the fractional part and to the integral part of each new parameter associated with said layer.
