Method for error handling of a fault in a DC voltage line and a converter arrangement for performing the method method for error handling of a fault on a DC voltage side of a converter arrangement (1) with a modular multi-stage converter (2) which comprises switching modules (SM1,2), each of which has a plurality of semiconductor switches and have at least one energy storage device, some of the switching modules being switching modules of a first type (SM1) and some others of the switching modules being switching modules of a second type (SM2), with a positive switching module voltage and a negative switching module voltage at connection terminals of the switching modules of the first type during operation of the converter arrangement or a zero voltage can be generated, and a positive switching module voltage or a zero voltage can be generated at connection terminals of the switching modules of the second type. The method is characterized in that the DC voltage-side fault is detected, the switching modules of the first type are controlled in such a way that the polarity of their energy storage voltages corresponds to the polarity of a fault current, and the energy storage devices of the switching modules of the first type are charged to a voltage above their nominal voltage . The invention also relates to a converter arrangement which is set up to carry out the method according to the invention.
