The invention relates to a method for operating a marshalling yard hump-shunting system which increases the efficiency of the hump-shunting system. For this purpose, the method according to the invention for operating a marshalling yard hump-shunting system proceeds in such a way that a control device of the hump-shunting system predicts, for a first dismantling unit which is to be hump-shunted over a hump of the hump-shunting system within the scope of a first hump-shunting process, an ending time (t1) of the first hump-shunting process, and a speed profile (vm0ir ^ANO2 ) is determined for a second dismantling unit which is to be pushed by a hump-shunting locomotive in the direction of the hump within the scope of an approach process and to be hump-shunted over the hump within the scope of a second hump-shunting process following the first hump-shunting process, taking into account at least the predicted ending time (ti) of the first hump-shunting process and a current position of the second dismantling unit, according to which speed profile (vm0ir ^ANO2 ) an uninterrupted transition of the approach process into the second hump-shunting process takes place, and the hump-shunting locomotive is controlled according to the determined speed profile (VAN01, VAN02).
