The present invention relates to a system and method for monitoring the status of at least one device (5) of an asset, initiating a service action for said at least one device (5) and recording said status and service action electronically, the method comprising the steps: defining conditions (3) of the device (5) which trigger a service action in a smart contract; encoding (13) these conditions and said smart contract in a blockchain (100); transmitting (10) measured parameters of the device (5) to the blockchain (100); initiating appropriate service action which is defined in said smart contract in case the condition is met; and storing a result of the service action in said blockchain (100).
