The present disclosure relates to means for the replacement of a non-vacuum IG window unit or an existing VIG window unit in a window frame by a VIG window unit that has a smaller thickness than the non-vacuum IG window unit or the existing VIG window unit in the window frame. The replacing VIG is situated in the window frame using a spacer that is placeable between the VIG window unit and a first stop portion of the window frame. The spacer comprises first and second corners for directly contacting the VIG window unit. A recess located in between the first and second corners of the first spacer allows for disposal of an adhesive for attaching the VIG window unit to the spacer.
