The invention relates to a method for determining the reliability of a control function for a device (6), wherein a plurality of function units (1, 2, 3) which are independent of one another jointly provide the control function and for this purpose have interfaces (9) for exchanging control signals. The following steps are provided in order to solve the problem of providing a determination of the reliability of the control function, which is provided by function units that are independent of one another: - Determining (S2) a hazard variable (20) for a second (2) of the plurality of function units (1, 2, 3), the hazard variable (20) endangering the second functional unit (2) due to a fault in a receiving interface (4) of the second functional unit (2) between the second functional unit (2) and a first one (1) of the plurality of functional units ( 1, 2, 3) describes, and- determining (S3) the reliability (24) of the control function as a function of the hazard size (20).
