To provide an apparatus and a method, which enable particles to be reliably distributed in droplets with free flowing characteristics.SOLUTION: An apparatus for distributing particles in freely-flying droplets includes: a fluid chamber that is fluidically connected to a nozzle; a sound source that is constituted so that an acoustic field enabling the particles in a liquid in the fluid chamber to be aligned in an array can be generated in the fluid chamber; and a drop-on-demand mechanism that is constituted so that the individual droplets including the one or more particles can be selectively distributed from the nozzle, at a selected point of time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
