PURPOSE: To provide a compact nonlinear ultrasonic non-destructive checkup device that can detect and make visible in a non-destructive way minute defects within and immediately underneath the surface of a measurable object, estimate its dimensions and classify its type by using at least one cycle of a large-amplitude sine wave.CONSTITUTION: A compact nonlinear ultrasonic non-destructive checkup device generates an at least one cycle of a large-amplitude sine wave to excite a transmit ultrasonic probe, quantifies waveform distortions as multiple characteristic quantities from the waveform of reflected wave received by a receive ultrasonic probe by digital waveform analysis and otherwise, figures out and converts into images the maximum amplitudes of the waveform on the + and - sides, propagation time and other features, and thereby converts into images in a non-destructive way any closed crack-like defect or intervening matter to detect and evaluate such defects.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
