The combination of single dye fluorescent staining and differences in both intensity and spectral emission allows the determination of the minimum concentration of antibiotics (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)) required to inactivate bacteria, thereby allowing. A means of rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) is provided. This allows clinicians to quickly and easily determine suitable treatments for patients suffering from bacterial infections and ultimately sepsis.
