PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a composite metal hydroxide for a cathode active material for a lithium-ion battery that is spherical or near-spherical and has a high tap density.SOLUTION: A composite metal hydroxide having the composition NiCoAl(OH)(a=0.7 to 0.95, b=0.02 to 0.2, c=0.0 to 0.1, d=2 to 2.1, and a+b+c=1) is produced by a precipitation method, controlled such that the residence time of slurry present in a reaction zone is less than 30 hours and the throughput is over 20 g/Lh.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
