To provide a photocatalyst activation device and a photocatalytic air purification device which can, with simple configurations, support the photocatalyst without giving damages to an optical fiber and, moreover, can efficiently irradiate the photocatalyst with light.SOLUTION: Provided is a photocatalyst activation device, which comprises a side-emission type optical fiber 6, a photocatalyst 2 supported on a side surface of the optical fiber 6, and a light source 8 which supplies light from an edge surface of the optical fiber 6, the light having a wavelength which activates the photocatalyst, and which activates the photocatalyst 2 by light transmitted through the side surface of the optical fiber 6, where supporting of the photocatalyst on the optical fiber 6 is configured to be performed by winding spirally a carrier 4 carrying the photocatalyst 2 around the optical fiber 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
