To provide a device and a method for generation of incretin and other peptide by stimulating an L cell of a small intestine for treatment of various diseases and conditions including diabetes and obesity.SOLUTION: A swallowable capsule 10 comprises: a capsule body 20; at least two electrodes 40 for providing electric stimulation to a desired cell; a controller 30 for controlling one or more operations of the capsule and generating an electric signal which is delivered to a tissue by the electrode; a power source 55 for supplying power to one or more components of the capsule such as a controller; and at least one sensor 60 for identifying a position of the capsule in the tract and/or various events and conditions in a GI tract, the capsule may comprise an accelerometer 65 for measuring movement speed of the capsule passing in the intestine, and identifying a period in which the capsule does not move.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
