To provide a method and device for detecting the occurrence of stored grain insect pests at the stage of newly hatched larvae.SOLUTION: A storage grain insect pest detection method includes: (1) a step of collecting a gas under an environment of stored grains; and (2) a step of detecting the presence or absence of one or more substance selected from prenol, isoprenol, dimethyl disulfide, and dimethyl trisulfide in the gas. A storage grain insect pest detection device includes: (1) means for collecting a gas under an environment of stored grains; (2) means for detecting the presence or absence of one or more substance selected from prenol, isoprenol, dimethyl disulfide, and dimethyl trisulfide in the gas; and (3) means for making notification about the presence or absence of an insect pest on the basis of the detection result.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
