Surgical navigation system and method including image guided navigation of a patient's head

Systems, methods, and devices are described herein that perform navigated surgical procedures involving patient anatomy in sterile and non-sterile surgical environments. The camera may be used to determine the alignment of the camera coordinate frame relative to the patient anatomy, or optionally the tracker relative to the patient anatomy. A drape may be applied for use in a sterile surgical environment. The camera may be moved from its original position to allow access to the patient anatomy while maintaining alignment of the camera coordinate frame with the patient anatomy. The camera may be hand-held or head-mounted. A visualized image of the anatomical structure of the patient may be displayed on the information processing apparatus together with a visualization reference plane set according to the posture of the device or the camera. The visualized image may be presented as part of a display of an information processing device or a head-mounted augmented reality system.
