To simplify an installation work of a lightning strike suppression type lightning arrester and reduce the installation cost by converting an existing pinpoint type lightning arrester into the lightning strike suppression type lightning arrester.SOLUTION: In a conversion device 1 that converts a pinpoint type lightning arrester 3 into a lightning strike suppression type lightning arrester 4, the lightning suppression type lightning arrester includes a first electrode 5 formed of a conductive material, a second electrode 7 disposed below the first electrode with an electrical insulator 6 interposed therebetween, and grounding means that grounds the second electrode to the ground, and the second electrode is provided with a connecting portion J that is electrically conductively connected to the tip of a needle that constitutes the pinpoint type lightning arrester.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
