The present disclosure relates to a method for catalytically selectively oxidizing with a molecular oxygen in a liquid phase containing a perfluoro solvent and an olefin compound to produce an epoxide. This method increases the epoxide selectivity to over 60%. The olefin compound can be ethylene, propylene, butene, 1-octene, butadiene, allyl chloride, allyl alcohol, styrene, and the like. The perfluoro solvent can be perfluoromethyldecalin, perfluorodecalin, perfluoroperhydrophenanthrene, perfluoro (butyltetrahydrofuran), an isomer thereof, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the method comprises catalytically epoxidizing propylene with molecular oxygen in a liquid phase comprising a perfluorosolvent to produce propylene oxide. Also provided is a system for performing the method, the system comprising a source of a perfluoro solvent, and a liquid phase fluidly connected to the source, and the olefin compound using molecular oxygen in a liquid phase comprising the perfluoro solvent. A liquid phase reactor configured to catalytically selectively oxidize to produce an epoxide.
