PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tar removal method concerning to the power generation system of a biomass carbonization gas where tar is removed from a gas (biomass carbonization gas) obtained by heat-treating a biomass raw material, and thereafter, power generation is performed using the gas.SOLUTION: Provided is a tar removal method comprising: a thermal decomposition step where a biomass raw material is thermally decomposed and carbonized; a cleaning-cooling step where a biomass carbonization gas separated in the thermal decomposition step is cleaned and cooled; a step where the biomass carbonization gas cleaned in the cleaning-cooling step is stored; and a step where the biomass carbonization gas is used as the power source of a power generator. In the cleaning-cooling step, the biomass carbonization gas is cleaned with vegetable oil or biodiesel fuel, and is also cooled to 20 to 40°C.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
