Irradiating non-neoplastic cells with low dose radiation provides a method of preventing damage to non-neoplastic, eg, healthy cells. This method initiates a protective cellular response that prevents subsequent damage to non-neoplastic cells by radiation therapy and the immune response to the neoplastic cells. A method of preventing damage to non-neoplastic cells is provided where low-dose radiation intercalates high-dose sessions, which themselves change through a weekly schedule.
