PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic display element which is excellent in transparency, with vivid coloring.SOLUTION: An electrochromic display element includes a display substrate 21, display electrodes (22, 25, 28), electrochromic layers (23, 26, 29) provided to contact to the display electrode, a counter substrate 35 provided to face the display substrate, a counter electrode 33, a charge holding layer 32 provided to contact to the counter electrode, and an electrolyte layer 30 provided between the display substrate and the counter substrate. The electrochromic layer contains at least tin oxide. The tin oxide is prepared from tin oxide sol solution.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
