[Problem] To provide a chlorine dioxide generating unit capable of releasing a practically adequate amount of chlorine dioxide for a long period of time while being small in size. [Solution] Provided is a chlorine dioxide generating unit characterized in that the unit is provided with a chemical agent accommodating part and at least two light source parts, the light source parts are for generating light comprising essentially the visible region of wavelengths, a chemical agent including a solid chlorite is accommodated in the chemical agent accommodating part, the chemical agent accommodating part is provided with one or a plurality of openings so that air can move between the inside and outside of the chemical agent accommodating part, the one or plurality of openings in the chemical agent accommodating part are covered by a breathable sheet, and the chemical agent present inside the chemical agent accommodating part herein is irradiated by the light generated from the light source parts, whereby chlorine dioxide is generated.
