PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft seal structure of a screw conveyor for ash transportation which securely prevents leakage of ash from the screw conveyor, and to provide a maintenance method of the shaft seal structure.SOLUTION: A shaft seal structure of a screw conveyor for ash transportation includes: a first shaft seal device 8 including a lid body 9, which is fastened to an axial end part 4a of a housing 4, includes a first gland packing 10 between itself and a shaft end part 6a of a screw shaft 6, and is configured to limit leakage of ash from the housing 4, and a pressing member 11 which is configured to press the first gland packing 10 to the lid body 9 in an axial direction; and a second shaft seal device 16 which is fastened to an axial outer side of the first shaft seal device 8, forms a space S for storing the pressing member 11 between itself and the first shaft seal device 8, includes a second gland packing 19 between itself and the shaft end part 6a of the screw shaft 6, and is configured to limit leakage of a gas from the space S. A pressure in the space S is kept at a higher level than a pressure in the housing 4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
