PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel which can provide joint characteristics (tensile strength and fracture toughness of the like of a stirring part) equal to and more than conventional high strength steel by a friction stirring joint and to which only relatively inexpensive alloy elements are added at minimum, and a friction stirring joint method with the steel as a material to be jointed.SOLUTION: There is provided a steel for friction stirring jointing having a steel composition containing, by mass%, C:0.20 to 0.45% and Cr:1.00 to 3.50%, and carbon equivalent CE defined by an A formula of 0.40 to 1.00 mass%. CE=C+Mn/6+(Cu+Ni)/15+(Cr+Mo+V)/5 (A), where element symbols represent content of each component in the steel material for friction stirring joint, by unit mass%.SELECTED DRAWING: None
