To provide a packet transfer system capable of easily realizing redundancy of a highly reliable line without using a redundant protocol.SOLUTION: A packet transfer system 10 includes: a first packet transfer device 11 which is a redundantly configured active packet transfer device; and a second packet transfer device 12 which is a standby system packet transfer device and is configured to transfer a packet between the packet transfer system and a terminal. When detecting a failure in a communication line with the terminal, the first packet transfer apparatus 11 transmits an instruction to switch an operating system to a second packet transfer apparatus 12. Upon receiving the switching instruction, the second packet transfer apparatus 12 deletes a MAC address of a port for communicating with the first packet transfer device 11 from a plurality of MAC addresses held by the second packet transfer apparatus 12.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
