PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for easily detecting water leak without requiring an additional component even when small amount of water leaks in a water heater including a flow rate detection section for detecting a hot water supply flow rate supplied from hot water supply piping.SOLUTION: A water heater 1 having a flow rate detection section 51 for detecting a hot water supply flow rate supplied from hot water supply piping 23 includes a water leak determination device 100 having a water leak determination section 10. The water leak determination section determines start of hot water supply in a water supply monitoring process, determines that a temperature difference between a water temperature in the hot water supply piping and an atmospheric temperature is a predetermined temperature difference by making a temperature difference determination for determining the temperature difference, and determines that water leak occurs when determining that in a fluctuation amount determination process of determining fluctuation amount of output of a water temperature detection section, the subsequent fluctuation amount reaches below a predetermined value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
